Summary:
The project KRAS-CARSO, with the full name of Sustainable Management of Natural Resources and Territorial Cohesion, is being carried out within the territory of Karst and promotes sustainable territorial integration of a homogenous area of Karst as one of the most important cross-border zones between Slovenia and Italy. The aim of the project is to carry out activities which will provide sustainable management of natural resources and territorial cohesion with joint strategies at a transnational level. Practical documents – guidelines for local public administration (Karst municipalities and the regions of Triest and Gorizia) will be written for the adoption of uniform criteria for the planning of spatial development at the level of spatial plans and implementing acts, and the management of natural and environmental resources (The Study on Spatial Planning in Karst, A Comprehensive Strategic Plan for the Development of Karst, Common Guidelines for the Spatial Implementing Acts in the Municipalities of Karst, Guidelines for Energy Conservation in Public Institutions in Karst, A Study on Karst, Guidelines for Management of Natural Areas in Karst, A Feasibility Study on Establishment of a Geopark in Karst), which will bring together nature conservation and environmental heritage with the needs of socio-economic development and quality of life of the local population.
In addition to the already realized organization of the Information Centre of Karst, more specific interventions have been anticipated, which will improve the attractiveness of the territory, the preparation of a map of forest fire threats, and the creation of various permanent collaborative networks: the network of information centres and The Living Museum of Karst, a network of trails, attractions and itineraries. Also the establishment of a permanent structure for the future cooperation between the local entities for the territory management has been anticipated, which could be institutionalised in the form of the European grouping for territorial cooperation or in the form of a permanent panel for a joint and cross-border development of Karst.
16 project partners, together with the senior partner – the Municipality of Sežana – take care of quality and efficient management and visibility of the project.
